Nestled in the hills above Big Flat surrounded by the Trinity Alps Wilderness.
The Little Cabin on the Hill is located 20 miles West of Weaverville, in Trinity County. When approaching the Big Flat area from the West or the East, you travel the all season Highway 299.
You can relax here in Big Flat in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, only a few minutes from the Trinity River. The River with it's legendary Salmon, Steelhead and Trout population awaits you. You are surrounded by recreational opportunities including seasonal Rafting Tours, easy Hiking, Hunting, Fishing, Swimming and you can even pan for Gold.
Each season is unique and brings with it an abundance of scenic views. You can view the breathtaking colors of Autumn, the wildflowers of Spring, and the beautiful snowscape of Winter.

The cabin affords many modern conveniences, even though it is located in the middle of Trinity's historic "Goldrush" country. A few miles away is the historic mining community of Helena, with it's brick buildings and metal roofs that mirror the those in Weaverville.
Even though located only a few minutes from HWY 299, we can offer you a peaceful and quiet location, with the seculusion of the forest. It will just take you one visit to realize that The Cabin on the Hill can be your home away from home in Trinity County.

You will find full service grocery and drugs stores in Weaverville, and a great stock of items at the Junction City Store.. only a few minutes away.
There is a telephone in the cabin for local calls. You will also discover an abundance of peace and quiet. Smoking is not permitted inside the Cabins. However, there are several designated areas. Forest Fires are always a genuine concern here in Trinity County.
Our Cabins are not wheelchair or handicapped accessible due to the vintage of the buildings.

Your pets are welcome, provided they behave well. Your pets must be supervised at all times and may not be left unattended in the cabin. We do require a $10 per day or $30 per week cleaning deposit when your animals accompany you.
This lovely cabin is surrounded by the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. There are many trailheads available for backpacking and fishing in the Trinity Apine Lake Settings. There is a U.S. Forest Service station in nearby Big Bar and a USFS Ranger Station at Weaverville East of Big Flat. Local Maps can be purchased at the USFS, and at Budman's Book Mine on Hwy 299 in Weaverville. Big Flat is acknowledged as one of the best "White Water Rafting/Kayaking Areas" in Northern California. Guided rafting trips are just minutes away.
The Trinity River is famous for its steelehead, trout and salmon. There are several locations to fish minutes away. Fishing licenses and supplies are availiable at Long's Drug Store in Weaverville 24hrs a day.
There are Rafting business near by, with guided rafting and kayaking adventures at all skill levels. Most of the Trinity River is classified as "Class 2 and 3 Runs", that are suitable for rafting and kayaking all year around. One of the most popular trips is from nearby Pigeon Point, near "Old Helena" to our very own Big Flat. It starts as a calm peaceful trip that combines short rapids ending in calm pools, then Climaxing with class 3 runs. Family Friendly excursions are availiable year-around. (Note: Class 5 are the the big "thrill rides".)
